Our Future

Our treasures are now securely stored at the Cultural Collections Recovery Centre at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand’s Wigram site. We’re assessing and cataloguing our collection, including removing the dust and debris deposited during the earthquakes, so that everything is shipshape again for our community to enjoy.

Turbulent times have come – and hopefully gone. We are now working hard to establish a new Lyttelton Museum.

We have also met other challenges head-on with promising results:

  • A funded feasibility study is nearing completion.
  • Funding for a series of distributed displays has been achieved.
  • A strategic plan has been prepared.
  • We have employed a collections technician to catalogue, clean, and re-house the Museum’s collection.

Best of all, we have a committed team of volunteers, many of them from the museum profession, who are working with great passion and dedication behind the scenes to develop a new Lyttelton Museum for our community.

" With over 10,000 objects in the collection it's no mean feat in organisation. "
